This product
is a plug-in extension to the OEM server (an agent extension) to monitor
GoldenGate instances. The plug-in is installed, configured and deployed to
the OEM server, and then deployed to OEM agents that reside on the physical GoldenGate
server(s). Each GoldenGate server to be
monitored must have the OEM 12.1 agent deployed to the server and the GoldenGate plug-in
deployed to those OEM agents. The monitoring runs through the agent.
Requirements:
- OEM 12.x agent must be deployed to each server running Oracle GoldenGate
- Can only monitor Oracle GoldenGate versions 11.2.+
- JAgent in the Oracle GoldenGate instance must be configured for OEM monitoring mode
- JAgent can only be configured for OEM or Monitor, it cannot be configured for both
Benefits:
- Can set metric thresholds and have alerts managed in a central repository and method
- OEM for everything which keeps things simple and running smoothly
- Graphical view of Oracle GoldenGate topology
Drawbacks:
- Must have OEM 12.1.x installed and agents deployed to all servers running GoldenGate
- May not have OEM at all if a DB2 or SQLServer shop
- Metrics did not work well in current release (believe they may have been patched by now)
- No remote administration of GoldenGate instances
- At this time, the new release of the plug-in may change this, and we are hoping it does
- Does not understand when Oracle GoldenGate has been clustered
- Registered as a CRS resource in an Oracle cluster (does not understand node fail over)
- Monitoring runs through the physical OEM agent on each server and each node must have the plug-in deployed to that agent
- Basically, one of the two or more agents things the processes are down when deployed to all OEM agents for the nodes involved in failover (very similar to cron-based monitoring)
It is important to note that a new release of the OEM GoldenGate Plug-in is due to out very soon, and this new release is suppose to have lots of new functionality in it. Most of us in the data integration space, and using lots and lots of GoldenGate (a market leader in data integration and replication) are anxiously awaiting this new release. The OEM plug-in is the direction Oracle is going with future GoldenGate monitoring (all monitoring in general). OEM 12c is very impressive and definitely ready as an enterprise monitoring tool, so we are happy to see Oracle developing the functionality in Director and GoldenGate Monitor and putting those features all in the OEM plug-in.
